Bjørn Helge Riise: «NF Academy Gives My Children The Extra Football Kick»

Norwegian professional footballer Bjørn Helge Riise shares the football passion with his two talented boys. This spring Riise Juniors will play with NF Academy IberCup Cascais tournament. Read below how Bjørn Helge Riise made his way to the international professional football level (Fulham 2009-2012, current team Aalesund) with his older brother John Arne Riise (Liverpool, Roma, Fulham, Chennaiyin) and why he sees international training camps and tournaments important for children who want to reach the international top level.

Bjørn Helge Riise, you and your brother John Arne have both made an awesome football career. What is the secret to your success?

«For me and my family football has always been everything. I grew up with an older brother John Arne who was one of the most talented Norwegian players ever since he started to play the game.  Following his path and seeing what he accomplished gave me the motivation to aim the same level. My whole life I have been training hard to be the best that I can be and now when looking back I am pretty proud of the work me and my brother have done to be able to play in the international teams.

Now your own boys are playing football. How do you think they and other young Scandinavian footballers can reach the international top level?

«During my career, I have been really interested in players’ development. What makes the best one Best!  And when I got kids of my own who also really love football and want to be as good as they can be, I wanna do everything to help them achieve their dreams. To have programs like NF Academy is fantastic. When you train with top-level coaches and other same age players you really see where the international football level is. Hopefully, that gives the young players a good reference and extra kick to train harder, better, and smarter.

My boys (born 2004 and 2007) are really excited to come to the IberCup Cascais tournament not only to play against top teams but also to see where their current level is and to train and meet other good players around Scandinavia. My boys have grown up with professional footballer uncle and dad and they genuinely share the same dream which is important to me. The kids need to have a genuine passion for football and fun when playing the game»

What makes good players THE BEST ones?

To reach the top football level is hard and we never know who will but we can make the road easier e.g. with better sessions where the children play with or against with the same or even higher level. If they get the right stimulation every day in a week they will develop. And that is what NF Academy gives them. In the end, some players make it to the top and some do not but that is why we love the game.»

Thank you Bjørn Helge! Any greetings you wish to send the players attending the IberCup Cascais tournament 2018?

«I wish all the players all the best in the upcoming tournament. Have fun and give your 100% to the game.»
